About A Second Chance, Inc. (ASCI) A Second Chance, Inc. is a private, community-based, not-for-profit kinship care agency whose mission is to strengthen and preserve healthy kinship families for children. Following the guidelines established by the Allegheny County Foster Care Task Force, A Second Chance, Inc. works in cooperation with the Allegheny County Department of Human Services - Office of Children, Youth, and Families (ACCYF). A Second Chance, Inc. was founded in 1994, and is located in Pittsburgh, PA. A Second Chance, Inc. is the only known organization in our nation that exclusively provides kinship care case management and supportive services to the entire kinship triad (children, birth parents, and caregivers). To date, A Second Chance, Inc. has serviced nearly 4,500 kinship foster children. A Second Chance, Inc. embraces the Child Welfare League of America definition of kinship care, which states, “Kinship care is the full-time nurturing and protection of children who must be separated from their parents by relatives, members of their tribes or clans, godparents, step-parents, or other adults who have a kinship bond with a child.” Mission
